Every year, MET Medical undertakes numerous road trips, varying from short 20-minute drives to extensive journeys spanning from Lands End to the Scottish Highlands or even reaching as far as Spain.

A significant portion of these extended ambulance journeys involves relocating elderly relatives nearer to their families or assisting patients who either neglected to purchase travel insurance or whose insurance did not cover their repatriation following an injury or illness abroad.

In each instance, our team relies on over a decade of experience, functioning as a well-coordinated unit. We understand the effective strategies and how to navigate the obstacles associated with long-distance travel.

Did you know our ambulances are equipped with refrigeration units and hot water facilities? This enables us to provide a variety of healthy snacks and meals, along with hot and cold beverages, throughout the journey. We utilize specialized pressure mattresses that convert a typically firm stretcher bed into a comfortable cushioning surface! Additionally, we offer pre-loaded tablets with entertainment options such as movies or documentaries, and tailor a music playlist as required.

When transporting an elderly patient, we extensively inquire about their health condition. Thus, we come fully prepared with appropriately qualified personnel and necessary medical and nursing provisions. Alongside inquiries about health conditions and medications, we also engage in conversations regarding their past occupation, marital status, hobbies, interests, favorite films, or television shows. This holistic approach ensures a patient-centered experience, smoothing out what could be a challenging journey into a more pleasant one.

All our ambulances are manned by a double crew, comprising a driver and an attendant. For particularly lengthy journeys, we may add a third team member to ensure compliance with safe driving regulations. The attendant is always present, prioritizing the patient's comfort and safety.
